docx can be read by Scribus with reasonable fidelity. Additionally, HTML and PUB documents have a high degree of support as well. odt documents have the highest degree of support, Scribus' import filter can import document text along with paragraph style information. Scribus can import text from a variety of common open formats with various limitations. Images tables have their own frame types and, much like commonly used graphics programs such as GIMP, frames can be layered to achive a specific effect. Text must be placed inside of a text frame. In Scribus the document is just a canvas with various frames. It is Unicode native and supports layouts with complex scripts such as kanji and right-to-left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Scribus uses its own XML-based file format. The file format is based on XML and is fully documented and supports imports from OpenDocument format standard.Scribus is a full-featured Qt-based desktop publishing package available for Linux, Windows, MacOS, and other operating systems. PDF 1.5 support includes transparency, encryption and a large set of the PDF specification including interactive PDF form fields, annotations, layers and bookmarks. The internal driver fully supports Level 2 PostScript constructs and very large set of Level 3. Printing is done via its own internal level 3 PostScript driver, including support for font embedding and sub-setting with TrueType, Type 1 and OpenType fonts. Scribus is available in more than 24 languages. Other features include support of CMYK colors and spot colors, ICC color management and scripting using Python. Scribus supports most major graphic formats in addition to SVG. The goals of the program are to make professional page layout accessible for beginners without limiting support for professional publishing features such as: spot color support, CMYK color, high grade PDF creation, Encapsulated Postscript import/export and creation of color separations. Originally developed on Linux, Scribus also runs natively on MacOSX and Windows 2000 and XP.
